At SavyBoat.com, we believe every vessel has a story worth preserving. That’s why we offer our customers the rare ability to commission any maritime model they can dream of — from iconic ocean liners and towering square‑riggers to championship race boats and their beloved personal yachts. Each piece is handcrafted as a true museum‑quality heirloom, built to our customers’ specifications on any scale or size they desire.
Every model begins with plans derived from photos, drawings, and other documents that are used to build a planked or solid wooden hull, shaped from high-quality fine woods such as mahogany, walnut, and teak. Our master craftsmen carefully create each component with precision, assemble every detail by hand, and mount the finished model on a polished wood base with polished solid brass pedestals and a nameplate. For a little more personalized character to the model, optional keel‑block mounting and/or weathered finishing is available.
The typical production process for producing a custom model takes 2-6 months, depending on the complexity of the model, the customer’s expectations, and the availability of materials. Though we have a vast array of resources to draw from, including museum collections from around the world, customer-furnished information such as specific blueprints, photos, and other details is helpful in the success of the overall process.
SIX SIMPLE STEPS TO YOUR MASTERPIECE
We’ve simplified the commissioning process for obtaining your dream model to the following six (6) simple steps.
- Commission of Your Vision
Your journey begins with contacting us for a quote to make your vision a reality. This may require some questions for us to understand your vision and exceed your expectations. Upon your acceptance of the quote, a 50% deposit is required to initiate your order and get it in our production queue, allowing our craftsmen to begin layout and shaping your vessel’s story.
- The Art of Creation
Once commissioned, our Production team begins its meticulous process of designing and hand‑building your model. We can easily build your model in ANY size or scale you desire. Throughout construction, our team collaborates closely to create the high-quality model of your vision.
Providing our team with your desired specifications, such as the level of detail, scale, color, logos, size, etc., is all that's needed for us to build the model of your dream. Our team will follow the specifications, reference materials, and historical details of your vessel to ensure accuracy and authenticity, using traditional ship‑modeling techniques, premium woods, and hardware.
- Completion & the Reveal
The production of your model is comprised of three main stages: construction of the hull, installation of deck details, and painting. Each stage is meticulously inspected to ensure it meets our stringent Quality standards before progressing to the next step. Once your model is completed, a comprehensive set of photos is taken and sent to you. This gives you a view of your final showpiece and allows you an opportunity for a final review to request any reasonable final refinements before it is shipped to you.
- Your Final Word
Your final approval is the final step before your model is readied for shipment to its new home.
- Balance & Blessing
Once we receive final approval, the remaining 50% balance is due so your vessel can be prepared and shipped to its new home.
- Departure & Safe Passage
In preparation for the transit of your new showpiece, it is secured in a custom-built, reinforced shipping crate and sent on her way — protected, documented, and ready to be displayed with pride.
