The Stancraft Shooter carries forward the long tradition of craftsmanship that has defined Stancraft Boats since 1933, when W.H. “Billy” Young and his son Stanley C. Young began hand‑building wooden speedboats on the shores of Flathead Lake, Montana. From those early days, Stancraft became known for its sculpted mahogany hulls, meticulous joinery, and custom‑built designs that blended artistry with performance. The Shooter name reflects that heritage—evoking speed, precision, and the bold styling that has become a Stancraft signature.
Over the decades, Stancraft evolved with the boating industry. Stanley Young served as the company’s head designer and builder for many years, guiding Stancraft through the transition from traditional wooden speedsters to the introduction of fiberglass models. In 1981, the second generation—Syd Young—moved operations to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, shifting the company’s focus toward restoration and limited new builds. By 2003, the third generation, Amy and Robb Bloem, revitalized Stancraft’s custom manufacturing operations, expanding facilities and building a team that now exceeds 100 employees in Hayden, Idaho.
Within this lineage, the Shooter stands out as a modern expression of Stancraft’s design philosophy. Real Shooter boats are custom‑built wooden speedboats, crafted to order and often incorporating contemporary features that enhance comfort and performance. A notable example is the 26‑foot Shooter, remodeled in 2022 with a rebuilt interior, integrated cooler/heater, side‑door entry, and even pull‑out hot tubs—an illustration of Stancraft’s willingness to merge classic craftsmanship with modern luxury. These boats are built one at a time, shaped to the owner’s vision, and finished with the deep varnish and sculpted lines that define Stancraft’s aesthetic.
The Shooter name also appears in a different context: small‑scale wooden replicas inspired by Stancraft designs. These handcrafted models, often produced in Vietnam, are popular as decorative pieces and feng shui symbols, representing success, resilience, and forward momentum. While not built by Stancraft itself, they borrow the Shooter’s sleek silhouette and serve as collectible tributes to the company’s design legacy.
Together, the real Shooter boats and their model counterparts reflect the broad influence of Stancraft’s craftsmanship. From its origins in Montana to its modern operations in Idaho, Stancraft has remained a family‑run builder committed to creating one‑of‑a‑kind vessels. The Shooter embodies that spirit—part performance boat, part design statement, and entirely rooted in the tradition of handcrafted excellence that has defined Stancraft for more than ninety years.
