By the time the Azimut 64 arrived in the late 2000s, Azimut Yachts had already spent four decades refining the art of Italian luxury afloat. What began in 1969 as Paolo Vitelli’s small chartering venture had grown into one of the world’s most influential yacht builders—an empire built on fiberglass innovation, bold styling, and a willingness to push the boundaries of what a production yacht could be. The 64 emerged from this lineage as a statement piece: a flybridge yacht that blended the athletic lines of a sport cruiser with the comfort and volume of a small motoryacht.
The model’s roots stretch back to Azimut’s early breakthroughs. The AZ 43’ Bali of 1970 introduced the company’s first original design, while the AZ 32’ Targa of 1977 became a runaway success. By the early 1980s, Azimut was building the Failaka 105, then the world’s largest GRP production yacht—a sign of the ambition that would define the brand. The acquisition of Benetti in 1985 cemented Azimut’s place at the top of the luxury yacht market, giving it the industrial capacity and design pedigree to compete globally.
Into this legacy stepped the Azimut 64, a successor to the popular Azimut 62 and a refinement of everything the company had learned about the 60–70 foot flybridge segment. Her exterior carried the unmistakable Azimut signature: sweeping deckhouse windows, sculpted hull lines, and a flybridge that balanced open-air living with aerodynamic form. The hardtop bimini—engineered to remain closed even at speed—was a subtle but telling example of Azimut’s focus on comfort without compromising performance.
Beneath the styling lay a hybrid construction philosophy. Traditional composites were paired with carbon‑fiber infusion in key structural areas, reducing weight and lowering the center of gravity. This allowed the yacht’s twin 1150 hp Caterpillar engines to deliver efficient cruising and confident handling. Class A homologation underscored her seaworthiness, while Seakeeper gyrostabilizers—capable of cutting roll by up to 80 percent—brought a level of comfort once reserved for much larger yachts.
Inside, the 64 embraced Azimut’s hallmark approach to space: flowing lines, ergonomic layouts, and a sense of volume that belied her length. Handrails were placed exactly where instinct expected them. The saloon and galley were arranged for both socializing and practicality. Below, the cabins offered generous headroom and thoughtful detailing, reflecting the brand’s commitment to owner‑focused design.
Technology played a central role as well. The Easy Docking system, power‑assisted helm, and enhanced visibility from both stations made the 64 approachable even for owner‑operators transitioning up in size. She was engineered not just to impress at anchor, but to be genuinely enjoyable to run.
Production of the Azimut 64 spanned roughly 2010 to 2017, depending on the source, placing her squarely in a period when Azimut was redefining its flybridge lineup. She competed in a crowded market, yet consistently stood out for her blend of Italian style, practical engineering, and the intangible sense of refinement that had become Azimut’s trademark.
Today, the Azimut 64 is remembered as a benchmark model—a yacht that captured the company’s evolution from a pioneering fiberglass builder into a global leader in luxury motoryachts. She represents the moment when Azimut fully embraced carbon‑fiber technology, advanced stabilization, and a more architectural approach to interior design. In many ways, she is the bridge between the classic Azimut aesthetic and the sharper, more contemporary lines of the brand’s modern fleet.
For owners, enthusiasts, and historians alike, the Azimut 64 stands as a testament to the company’s enduring philosophy: Italian craftsmanship, forward‑leaning innovation, and a commitment to making life at sea both beautiful and effortless.
