When Azimut introduced the 68‑foot platform, it wasn’t simply adding another model to its Flybridge Collection—it was defining a new chapter in the company’s design language. By the late 1990s, Azimut had already transformed itself from Paolo Vitelli’s small 1969 chartering venture into one of the world’s most influential yacht builders. The acquisition of Benetti in 1985 had given the company the industrial muscle to build larger, more sophisticated yachts, and the 68‑foot range became the proving ground for Azimut’s next generation of ideas.
The first major expression of this shift arrived in 1999 with the Azimut 68 Plus. It was a yacht that looked unmistakably modern—its sweeping curves, fluid glazing, and sculpted superstructure marked a departure from the straighter, more conservative lines of earlier flybridge yachts. The 68 Plus showcased Azimut’s growing mastery of fiberglass and glass integration, using curvilinear windows to flood the interior with light and create a sense of openness that felt ahead of its time. Built in Avigliana, with outfitting completed at coastal facilities, the model reflected Azimut’s increasingly refined production process.
But the real turning point came in 2005 with the launch of the Azimut 68S. This was not just an update—it was a reinvention. The 68S introduced a bold, express‑style profile with tiered side windows, square portholes, and a dramatic, low‑slung silhouette. It was the first new express yacht design Azimut had produced in two decades, and it showed. The modified‑V hull delivered speed and stability, while twin 1,360‑hp MTU diesels pushed the yacht to 35 knots, giving it the performance of a sport cruiser with the volume of a motoryacht. Inside, the 68S offered a full‑beam forward master suite, a generous salon, and multiple guest cabins—proof that Azimut could blend luxury and velocity without compromise.
Two decades later, the modern Azimut 68 Flybridge carries the lineage forward with a distinctly contemporary voice. Designed by Alberto Mancini, the exterior is wider, taller, and more architectural, with extensive carbon‑fiber construction in the superstructure, deck, and hardtop to reduce weight and improve efficiency. The flybridge is a social centerpiece—sunpads, lounges, a wet bar, and open sightlines that turn the upper deck into a floating terrace. Inside, Achille Salvagni’s interiors offer a sculptural, residential feel, with customizable layouts that allow owners to choose between an aft galley, an enclosed galley, or an open‑plan arrangement.
Propulsion has evolved as well. Twin Volvo Penta IPS 1350 engines deliver fuel‑efficient cruising, nearly 32 knots at top speed, and a range of around 400 miles at 18 knots. The yacht’s modularity—multiple cabin configurations, flexible main deck layouts, and tailored décor—reflects Azimut’s shift toward personalization and owner‑driven design.
Across all its iterations, the Azimut 68 has remained a signature model: a yacht that bridges the gap between mid‑size flybridge cruisers and the larger Azimut 72 or 83. Each version—68 Plus, 68S, and the current 68 Flybridge—has pushed the brand forward in materials, styling, and onboard living.
Today, the Azimut 68 stands as a testament to more than twenty years of continuous refinement. It embodies the company’s core philosophy: Italian elegance, technological innovation, and a commitment to making life at sea both beautiful and effortless.
