When the COSCO EUROPE entered service in 2008, she joined a generation of container ships built for a world that had fully embraced globalization. At 349 meters long and nearly 46 meters wide, with a deadweight of 109,968 tons and a capacity of just over 10,000 TEU, she represented the new standard of the late 2000s: vessels large enough to bridge continents in a single voyage, yet still maneuverable enough for the world’s busiest ports.
Built for COSCO Shipping, one of the world’s largest maritime carriers, the COSCO EUROPE was designed for the long, demanding routes between East Asia and North America—the arteries of modern trade. Her size placed her among the early “New Panamax” giants, capable of carrying thousands of containers stacked in towering rows above her deck. With a typical service speed of 14–18 knots and a draught of around 14.2 meters, she was optimized for efficiency, fuel economy, and the relentless schedules of transpacific commerce.
From the beginning, she sailed under the Panama flag, managed by Shanghai Ocean Shipping Co. Ltd., and classified by Lloyd’s Register (LRS). Her early years saw her operating alongside sister ships such as COSCO AMERICA and COSCO AFRICA, forming a cohesive fleet of high‑capacity vessels that helped COSCO expand its presence on the world’s major trade lanes.
By the mid‑2020s, COSCO EUROPE had settled into a familiar rhythm: Qingdao → Tianjin → Yangshan → Long Beach → Prince Rupert → back across the Pacific. These voyages formed the backbone of the transpacific supply chain, carrying electronics, textiles, machinery, and consumer goods eastward, and returning with agricultural products, recyclables, and industrial materials westward. Her port calls at Yangshan Deep‑Water Port, one of the world’s largest automated terminals, underscored her role in the high‑volume, high‑efficiency world of modern logistics.
In June 2026, her movements reflected this steady pattern. She departed Qingdao on June 3, called at Tianjin, then reached Yangshan on June 6–7 before setting out across the Pacific. Her estimated arrival at Long Beach on June 21, 2026, was part of a schedule that rarely paused—container ships like COSCO EUROPE are built to keep moving, their value measured in miles sailed and cargo delivered.
Regular maintenance at COSCO SHIPPING HEAVY INDUSTRIES (Zhoushan) kept her in top condition, ensuring that her engines, hull, and cargo systems remained ready for the heavy demands of transpacific service. Even after nearly two decades at sea, she remained a reliable workhorse in one of the world’s most competitive shipping markets.
Today, the COSCO EUROPE stands as a representative of the early 21st‑century container era—large, efficient, and deeply embedded in the global supply chain. She is not a headline‑making vessel, but she is essential: one of the thousands of steel giants that quietly knit together the economies of Asia and North America, voyage after voyage, year after year.
Her story is still being written, one crossing at a time.
