Delivered in August 2017 from Samsung Heavy Industries in Geoje, OOCL Germany emerged as one of the defining vessels of OOCL’s modern era — a towering representative of the company’s leap into the world of ultra‑large container ships. At 400 meters long and 59 meters wide, she is a floating city of steel and machinery, capable of carrying 21,413 TEU, a capacity that placed her among the largest container ships on Earth at the time of her debut.
OOCL Germany was the second vessel in OOCL’s groundbreaking G‑class, a series that pushed the limits of ship size, efficiency, and engineering precision. Her hull form, machinery layout, and cargo‑handling systems were designed for the demands of the Asia–Europe trade lane — the busiest, most competitive corridor in global shipping. Powered by a highly efficient main engine and operating at a service speed of 22.5 knots, she moves staggering volumes of cargo with the reliability required for just‑in‑time global logistics.
Her arrival marked a new chapter in OOCL’s long evolution. Founded in 1947 by C. Y. Tung as the Orient Overseas Line, the company grew from a postwar merchant fleet into one of the world’s most technologically advanced carriers. By the time OOCL Germany entered service, the company had already become a pioneer in containerization, a founding member of the Ocean Alliance, and a leader in digitalized, environmentally conscious operations. The G‑class ships embodied that progress — vast in scale, but engineered with precision to reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and operating costs.
Since entering service, OOCL Germany has been a workhorse of the Asia–Europe rotation, connecting manufacturing hubs, transshipment ports, and major European gateways with clockwork regularity. Her size allows her to consolidate cargo that once required multiple smaller ships, improving efficiency across OOCL’s network and reinforcing the company’s reputation for dependable long‑haul service.
Today, OOCL Germany stands as a testament to OOCL’s commitment to innovation, scale, and operational excellence. She represents not only the technological achievements of the G‑class, but also the company’s broader journey — from a pioneering Asian shipping line to a global carrier operating some of the largest and most advanced vessels afloat.
