MS ADVENTURE of the Seas is a Voyager‑class cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International, launched and entering service in 2001. Built in Finland for $500 million, the ship measures 138,193 gross tons, stretches 311.1 meters in length, and carries up to 3,807 guests supported by a crew of 1,185. Registered in the Bahamas, it has spent its career sailing a wide range of itineraries from U.S. and European ports, including the Caribbean, Baltic, Mediterranean, Canada/New England, and Northern Europe.
Designed as the third ship in the Voyager class, Adventure of the Seas features the signature Royal Promenade, a four‑deck‑high indoor boulevard running 120 meters through the center of the ship. Its 15 decks include 14 passenger decks and 1,557 staterooms, with a mix of balcony, ocean view, interior, and promenade‑facing cabins. The ship also includes accessible staterooms and cabins with additional berths. Amenities include an outdoor movie screen, Aqua Park, Cyclone and Typhoon water slides, and the popular Flow Rider surf simulator.
Technically, the vessel is powered by a diesel‑electric system consisting of six Wärtsilä 12V46 engines producing a combined 74,538 kW, driving three ABB Azipod units and four bow thrusters. This configuration gives the ship a top speed of 22.5 knots.
After entering service in November 2001, Adventure of the Seas became a regular presence in the Caribbean and Europe. In 2016, it underwent a major $61 million refurbishment, adding new staterooms and updating public spaces as part of Royal Caribbean’s fleet‑wide modernization program.
During the COVID‑19 pandemic, the ship was involved in several repatriation operations. In May 2020, it docked in Jamaica with over 1,000 Jamaican crew members returning home, several of whom later tested positive for the virus. The ship remained in the St. Maarten region during the industry shutdown. In March 2021, Royal Caribbean announced the ship would resume service from Nassau with vaccination requirements for guests and crew. By late 2022, the cruise line eased most pre‑cruise testing requirements except for certain destinations.
