Completed in 2003, Serenade of the Seas emerged from the covered halls of Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, as the third vessel in Royal Caribbean’s Radiance class. Delivered on July 30, 2003, she represented a modern shift in cruise‑ship engineering: a sleek profile, expansive glass architecture, and a gas‑turbine propulsion system designed for cleaner emissions and higher efficiency. Even among Royal Caribbean’s diverse fleet, Serenade stood out as a ship built for both elegance and performance.
Her maiden voyage began on August 25, 2003, marking a milestone as the first Royal Caribbean ship ever to sail from New York City. That inaugural season carried guests northward to Canada and New England, showcasing her panoramic lounges and open‑air decks against rugged coastlines and autumn colors. By November 2003, she repositioned to the Caribbean, settling into the warm‑weather itineraries that would define much of her early career.
As a Radiance‑class ship, Serenade of the Seas was designed around light, space, and connection to the sea. Stretching 294 meters and accommodating roughly 2,490 guests with a crew of 891, she features sweeping ocean views from nearly every public area. Her amenities include multiple pools, a rock‑climbing wall, mini‑golf, and a wide range of dining venues — from Chops Grille to Izumi Sushi Bar — giving her the feel of a refined, mid‑sized resort at sea.
Over the years, Serenade has taken on several notable roles. On July 19, 2021, she became the first Royal Caribbean ship to return to Alaska after the industry‑wide pause, sailing from Seattle and reintroducing guests to the Inside Passage. But her most ambitious chapter began in 2023, when she embarked on Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise — a 274‑day global journey visiting 65 countries and more than 150 ports of call. Departing on December 10, 2023, and concluding in Miami on September 10, 2024, it became the longest cruise ever offered by any cruise line, cementing Serenade’s place in modern cruising history.
Today, Serenade of the Seas continues to embody the spirit of exploration that shaped her design. From her early voyages out of New York to her record‑setting world cruise, she remains a ship defined by discovery, engineering innovation, and the ability to bring guests closer to the world’s coastlines and cultures.
