The tanker now known as STEN POSEIDON began her career in 2007, launched from a modern European yard as Bro Nibe, one of a new generation of mid‑size chemical and oil‑products carriers designed for the increasingly complex demands of coastal and regional petroleum trade. At 144 meters in length with a 16,534‑DWT capacity, she was built to operate efficiently in the busy, weather‑challenging waters of Northern Europe — a workhorse engineered for precision, safety, and versatility.
Her early years under the name Bro Nibe reflected the steady, unglamorous rhythm of tanker service: short‑sea voyages, multi‑port rotations, and the constant movement of refined products and specialty chemicals between terminals in the North Sea and Baltic regions. In 2010, she entered a new chapter when she was renamed Nibe Maersk, joining the Maersk‑affiliated fleet and continuing her role in the tightly scheduled European petroleum network.
Throughout the 2010s, the vessel remained a familiar presence in major ports such as Rotterdam, Antwerp, Amsterdam, and Ghent, navigating some of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. Her design — a double‑hulled chemical/oil tanker classed by DNV — allowed her to carry a wide range of cargoes, from clean petroleum products to specialized chemical parcels. Regular maintenance, including drydock work at Remontowa Shiprepair S.A. in GdaÅ„sk, kept her in reliable operating condition as she moved steadily through her second decade of service.
In 2023, the ship received her current name, STEN POSEIDON, reflecting her management under Rederiet Stenersen AS, a Norwegian company known for operating high‑quality, environmentally conscious tankers. Reflagged to Portugal (Madeira), she continues active service today, part of the essential but often unseen infrastructure that keeps Europe’s energy and chemical supply chains moving.
Across nearly two decades, STEN POSEIDON has demonstrated the durability and adaptability expected of modern chemical/oil tankers. From her beginnings as Bro Nibe, through her long tenure as Nibe Maersk, to her present identity, she has remained a steady, capable vessel — a practical, hardworking ship built for the demanding realities of regional tanker trade.
